  • How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Please spend some time to read through my website. The content shall provide basic information about my training, experience, knowledge, expertise and work style.

A free 15-min phone consultation call can be scheduled here if you want to know more about how I helped clients like you before, and other things that might interest you. During the consultation call, our interactive conversation guided by important screening questions shall be able to help us find out if I am a best fit for your needs.

  • How many therapy sessions do I need?

If you simply want to figure out solution(s) to what brought you to counseling, 3-4 sessions shall be enough for me to know you well in order to make my suggestions/advice useful and “tailor-made”,

Of course, if you’d like to explore AND resolve what has held you back from acting in your own best interest, additional sessions may be warranted. As a matter of fact, the duration of treatment varies from person to person because people differ in their challenges, strengths, motivation, quality of social support received, and goals, etc.

However, the most satisfied clients of mine share these features: commitment to getting healthier; courage to confront the past or even traumas; eagerness to act on newly gained knowledge; willingness to practice emotional honesty in treatment. They achieved their goals within 6-20+ weekly meetings. So is it where you are now?

  • How do you help me?

First, let’s assume that my expertise address what concerns you (chronic anxiety, chronic depression, grief & loss, early traumas, relationship issues / codependency and recovery from addiction).

In the early stage of treatment, you will need to educate me about your thoughts, emotions, values, beliefs, preferences, choices and behaviors to your best ability. As I know you more, we will explore how the past has shaped, formed and impacted the present & address the issues accordingly.

Our team work will witness your transformational changes while we help you sort out feelings & thoughts, fulfill unmet emotional needs, resolve past losses & traumas, develop healthy & helpful communicative and relational skills, and reclaim your authenticity & self-confidence.

  • What if I don't wanna talk at all in our meetings?

That is absolutely OK with me. Believe it or not, not talking is actually another way of COMMUNICATION.

Actually, it tend to convey more than verbal words if you engage in sandplay therapy, a non-verbal form of therapy that has carried powerful healing potential since 1950’s. While making sand pictures, the client’s hands “talk” and the therapist’s eyes “listen”. If talking is difficult to you, it is time for you to consider using this highly effective treatment method. • How do I know if I am making progress in therapy?

Progress is made when we see decrease in symptom duration, severity and frequency. If your symptoms subside faster, cause less discomfort, or return less often, we can rest assured that you’re doing better.

When this is happening, you will feel it. Regular check-in with my clients about treatment efficacy is part of clinical conversation in our meetings.

Second, routine monitoring and assessment of treatment outcome can offer objective validation to clinical observation. We all know that numbers don’t lie. I used “Bettermind Software” to deliver outcome assessment to clients and track progress over time. Online assessments will be used on the following occasions: pre-treatment, during treatment (repeated every 2-3 months), and post-treatment (at the conclusion of therapy).

  • What can I expect during our first session?

    1. Interactive discussion about informed consent (a must-have, but duration can vary)

    2. Time for your questions if any

    3. Review assessment results and discuss personal symptoms

    4. Your elaboration of reasons to seek counseling services

    5. Develop mutually agreed-on treatment goals

    6. Gather history of what concerns you

As you can see, the schedule for the first meeting is really crowded. Please arrive on time so we can make the most out of the session.

  • How can I better prepare myself for therapy sessions?

A million-dollar question!. I have written a blog post “7 Topics That Are Proven to Deepen Your Counseling Sessions” to address this concern.
